South Plains Educational Co-op (SPECO) is a shared services arrangement with nine school districts; Anton, Levelland, Meadow, Morton, Ropes, Smyer, Sundown, Whiteface, and Whitharral. Levelland is the fiscal agent.
SPECO makes a free and appropriate public education available to all students with disabilities, which includes special education and related services to meet the unique needs of each student. The Federal regulations and State Board of Education rules assure that this education to students with disabilities will be provided in the least restrictive environment, and the South Plains Educational Co-op abides by the Federal and State guidelines.
The support staff includes four educational diagnosticians, three instructional supervisors, three counselors, six speech pathologists, one teacher of the visually impaired, one adaptive physical education teacher, one school nurse, twenty-eight teachers, and seventeen teaching assistants. The program is funded by Federal funds (IDEA-B), local funds and revenue from the nine districts participating in the Co-op.
