$5,200 in LIFE Grants Received

Fourteen LISD educators were awarded $ 5,200 in LIFE Grants today. LIFE donates money to LISD teachers to make their out-of-the-box ideas come to fruition. Four teachers and Principal, Mrs. Howard at ABC received grants. Joanna Forbes will receive handheld drums so that each student will have their own drum to play in music instruction. Shelby Garrett will receive flexible seating to allow student movement for academic success. Tammy Perez will receive Cuddly Book holders to aid with reading and technology each day. And Eve Gerber, along with Principal Mrs. Ashley Howard, will receive a LEGO wall to provide hands-on learning opportunities that support inquiry-based and active learning. Two Capitol educators received LIFE grants. Pam Alexander will get a new smart TV to enrich library projects. Susan Draper will receive Awesome Adventures in Art to explore original art and artists from around the world. She will also receive tubano drums for students to learn beat and explore music from around the world. Five educators from South received grants. Lacey Guzman, Natalie Lorenz, Jessica Vergara, Erin Wiemers, Shelby Williams, and Instructional Coach Amy Kenley will all receive Advanced Number Line Clocks for their classrooms. These clocks teach time and enable students to understand that a clock is a circular number line. And finally, Public Relations Specialist Cristal Isaacks will receive University pennants to promote LHS seniors attending college as the next opportunity after high school. LIFE teacher grants are awarded once a year, and LIFE operates solely on donations and fundraisers. If you would like to help out students and teachers, you can make a LIFE donation at City Bank or Hockley County School Employees Credit Union. Thank you to Lillian Northcutt for bringing the cheerleaders and to Mr. John Barry for bringing the drumline to make these grants a "big deal." It was fun for deserving educators to reach their goals! And thank you to the LIFE Foundation for promoting LISD student learning! You're in the right place!
