Learning Beyond the Classroom

Coach Kendall Durrett shares that LHS Health Science students are discovering that some of life’s most important lessons aren’t always found in a textbook! Each Wednesday, students have the opportunity to learn from Mr. Clarence Lewis with Lubbock Public Health’s Youth Liaison Program. Mr. Lewis brings energy, experience & real-world conversations into the classroom, creating a space where students feel comfortable participating, asking questions & thinking about the choices they make. Through interactive activities, group discussions & engaging lessons, students explore important topics including drug & tobacco prevention, decision-making, stress management, self-control, communication, healthy relationships, goal setting & the real-life consequences of our choices. What makes these Wednesdays so meaningful is the connection Mr. Lewis builds with our students. He gets them talking, thinking, laughing & participating while helping them develop skills they can carry far beyond the classroom. These are lessons for school, but more importantly, lessons for life. We are grateful to Mr. Lewis & Lubbock Public Health for investing in our students and partnering with us to provide meaningful learning experiences that help our Lobos find their place, discover their purpose & create their future. Thank you, Mr. Lewis, for showing up each week and making a difference!
